Jewish Leadership Council calls government celebration of el-Fattah 'appalling'
Starmer’s pledge to eradicate antisemitism after a jewish terror attack are in tatters as he betrays us again by welcoming el-Fattah to Britain who openly hates white, British and Jewish people
Keir Starmer posted on X: “I’m delighted that Alaa Abd el-Fattah is back in the UK and has been reunited with his loved ones... Alaa’s case has been a top priority for my Government.” Cabinet ministers like David Lammy, Hamish Faulkner and Yvette Cooper echoed similar jubilant welcomes.
Anger arose shortly after his arrival when old social media posts resurfaced, showing Abd el-Fattah expressing extremist views relating to white people, Jewish, US and the killing of innocent civilians. As you can see from the sample posts below, Alaa Abd el-Fattah is not a pleasant man.
Despite what the Government say, in our eyes he is not British either. Being British is more than a piece of paper. He might have been granted British citizenship but Alaa has never lived in Britain and only obtained citizenship by descent through his mother granted in December 2021. It was primarily to enable consular support, not based on prior residence, nor previous visits or showing any form of outstanding loyalty to Britain or its subjects. Therefore someone who was not born in Britain, lived, visited, assisted, followed its Culture nor even had a short holiday here, cannot be called British in the true sense of the word.
But now Labour are celebrating his arrival in the UK to utter dismay of millions and striking alarm within the Jewish community.
Political Alarm
Former Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith signed a cross-party letter in December last year urging the government to secure his release in Egypt. Writing on X on Sunday, Sir Iain said: ‘I do, however regret signing the letter calling for the release of Alaa Abd el-Fattah, given his views, that have since come to light, are utterly abhorrent.’ At least Iain has the decency to apologise.
Downing Street sources stated Starmer was also unaware of the posts at the time and the government does not condone them. The focus had been on securing the release of a British citizen detained unjustly, a bipartisan priority. I wonder what they think to Shamima Begum in that case…
Critics argue that Starmer & Co’s celebratory public welcome especially amid rising antisemitic incidents in the UK and the recent terror attack, appeared to endorse or overlook these views, showing poor judgment.
Robert Jenrick criticised senior ministers for “rejoicing at the fact this man was coming here, bragging that they’d achieved some kind of diplomatic coup that someone who basically hates Britain, hates everything that we stand for, is now going to be coming here to roam our streets, and live potentially the rest of his life amongst us.”
He added: “It is an absolute disgrace, it tells you everything you need to know about this Labour government and it has to be stopped if we can.
“I think this man’s citizenship should be revoked and he should be made to live in Egypt or frankly anywhere else in the world other than the UK.”
Human rights groups and left-leaning sources (e.g., Guardian, Al Jazeera) emphasise Abd el-Fattah’s status as a symbol of resistance against authoritarianism and celebrate his freedom without highlighting the old antisemitism and extremism posts against the very country and people who are now looking after him.
Community Concerns
The Jewish Leadership Council called the government’s welcome “appalling” and noted Starmer’s recent pledges to eradicate antisemitism. The JLC, a charity representing Jewish organisations across the UK, issued a statement condemning the “effusive welcome” Alaa Abd El-Fattah received from the UK government. They highlighted the timing amid recent antisemitic attacks (e.g., in Manchester’s Heaton Park and Australia’s Bondi Beach) and said: “The Prime Minister recently reiterated his determination to root out antisemitism from our country but has now shared his delight that someone who has advocated for killing Zionists has arrived in the UK. The Government has celebrated Mr Abd El-Fattah’s arrival as a victory, British Jews will see it as yet another reminder of the danger we face.”
Board of Deputies of British Jews the main representative body for UK Jews, raised concerns about his “extremist and violent rhetoric” aimed at Zionists and others, calling it “threatening to British Jews and the wider public.” They criticised the cross party campaign for his release and the government’s welcome as showing a “lack of due diligence,” and urged an investigation into whether he still holds those views.
Jewish Chronicle In an article titled “Jewish leaders slam prime minister for welcoming British-Egyptian activist who called for killing of Zionists,” the publication reports on backlash from the JLC and Board of Deputies, detailing his historic posts (e.g., “there is a critical number of Israelis that we need to kill”) and noting calls for revoking his British citizenship. It frames the government’s delight as tone-deaf amid heightened fears in Jewish communities.
Jewish News An article headlined “’Serious questions to answer’: PM condemned for celebrating arrival of activist who once urged killing of Zionists” echoes the JLC’s statement and reports on broader communal anger. It notes the government’s response acknowledging his “abhorrent” past posts but defending his release on human rights grounds, while Jewish leaders demand accountability.
These responses are unanimous in opposition from UK Jewish groups, tying into broader concerns about antisemitism.
To be fair, is he hates white people, British people and Jewish people who combined make up a large percentage of the demographic of this country and he would like to leave, he is more than welcome and I will even pay his air fare.
Cant say fairer that that. The same goes for Starmer.
